Doesn't give you the kinda excitement you'll get from the earlier Ender/Bean series books. The story follows Bean and Petra after the events of kinapping of Battle School Children to led the wars back on earth. There is a romance between Bean and Petra, that reads very bland and the battle strategies in this book are a big step down from Shadow of the Hedgemon.

Motivations to Read

A continuation in the Ender Shadow Series. I was pleased that the quality didn't drop off too much in Shadow of the Hedgemon and felt invested to continue into the series.

3 Reasons to Read

  • Political Drama
  • Nations are rising again, seeking territory and influence, and most of all, seeking to control the skills and loyalty of the children from the Battle School.
  • Continuing story of Bean and Petra, and the rest of Ender's Dragon Army

Notable Quotes

“It will hurt." said Petra. "But let's make the most of what we have, and not let future pain ruin present happiness.” Orson Scott Card

“But it was not the boyish grin she had known when he bounded along the low-gravity inner corridors of Battle School. This smile had weariness in it, and old fears long mastered but still present. It was the smile of wisdom.” Orson Scott Card

“You accomplish exactly as much as the people who serve you decide you'll accomplish, and nothing more.” Orson Scott Card

“As they say, a word to the wise is sufficient. And here I've gone and written five paragraphs.” Orson Scott Card

“The only people who think children are carefree are the ones who've forgotten their own childhood.” Orson Scott Card
