Don't Write Off 2020

Juvoni Beckford

There is a lot of pressure to write off 2020 or forget the year ever happened.

I can't remember a year where I ever learned this much about myself or even human nature. This year has tested me on so many dimensions and brought back a lot of bad memories & struggles.

I had to mentally & emotionally learn how to walk again, but sometimes loss helps you discover what's most important.
The basic & simple show the fundamental steps of being human.

Fear was a common theme this year.

It will probably take me multiple years to integrate the lessons, make my systems & habits more robust, but a lot of strong people will emerge, who are able to stare pain in the face from the challenges we had to go through.

From a historical context, this is probably a 4/10 on the shit is serious scale, and had me reflect on my relationship with comfort and complacency.

We are operating within an inequitable system, with incompetent leadership across the board, still I found challenges in not leading myself well throughout the year.

At the same time, I learned to have compassion for myself and recalibrate my expectations on what I can do in my current mental state.

I hope people have the courage to not look away from personal truths revealed this year.
