A memoir of Michael Singer, and a radical experiment in saying yes to whatever life puts in front of you. It talks about the journey of inner work in the first half of the book and then explores the outer journey where life tests your inner work. I enjoyed the book but felt, his other book Untethered Soul had more impact on me. Overall the book is about letting go of personal control to embrace life's natural flow. It’s very stressful to try to control every outcome and our lives could be much lighter if we allow nature to play its course. It’s much more intelligent than we think.

Motivations to Read

Untethered Soul was an incredibly influential book in my life so I wanted to check this out. As someone who grew up in more chaotic environments, I have had a pull to try to control things which has led to a lot of stress. A couple of years ago I started leaning more into surrender and letting go and this book lots to be exploring that more in depth.

3 Reasons to Read

  1. Shows what inner work means.
  2. If you are an over planner who is trying to let go of control.
  3. Encourages you to go more with the flow of life and getting out of your comfort zone.

Notable Quotes

“No matter who we are, life is going to put us through the changes we need to go through. The question is: Are we willing to use this force for our transformation? I saw that even very intense situations don't have to leave psychological scars, if we are willing to process our changes at a deeper level.”

“Each of us actually believes that things should be the way we want them, instead of being the natural result of all the forces of creation.”

“My formula for success was very simple: Do whatever is put in front of you with all your heart and soul without regard for personal results. Do the work as though it were given to you by the universe itself - because it was.”
